Essay / A Review of Late Play and Play - 1192
Staging, which is the arrangement of actors and scenery in a theatrical production, is essential to the success of a play. Throughout this review, I will review two different plays and examine their use of costumes, lighting, and set design to convey a message through strong staging. “Play” opens with three figures encased in large urns with only their faces visible. . The urn as a prop is significant because it symbolizes that individuals are trapped by their own desires; condemned to repeat them. They can neither see nor hear each other. A projector, a voiceless interrogator, projected on the faces of the actors, pivots between them and encourages each in turn to speak; when the light goes, faces become silent. A man and two women (a husband, his wife and his mistress) are driven by light to tell the story of their love triangle. Through precise use of lighting, shadows and props, the audience is made to be fascinated by the story. As the bodies tell their stories repeatedly, different tones are used to describe/convey new details each time. “Play” begins with a humorous tone, but with each repetition the story becomes darker and more boring? However, the coherence of this unique ensemble makes for a powerful message and keeps the audience tuned in and focused. The play “Endgame” opens by initiating the only staging of the play. It is early in the morning and Clov has entered a sterile room containing two trash cans (covered with an old sheet) and a wheeled chair (also covered with an old sheet). Light from the rising sun permeates the room as this event unfolds. Using a ladder, Clov begins his daily ritual of drawing the curtains of two small windows (fir...... middle of paper...... boring being the costumes, Hamm was dressed in red , which represents how he perceives himself about the universe and the game. As a visual designer, I understood the importance of what an individual setting could do for a room and how it was one of the main components of this piece This was the first time I've seen a piece that could do this using a single set, and it's definitely a way to think about future projects and how to have a cohesive theme instead. integrating several can be powerful for a story, I also found it fascinating that the author of the play took one of his hobbies and incorporated it into the play in a unique way Works Cited A.CT.
