    In his speech, Stanton mentions “the record of blood and cruelty that the pages of history reveal” (Stanton) with regard to established patriarchy. The "pages of history" formulation gives Stanton support and conviction, because the actual historical account of Stanton's argument demonstrates accurate knowledge of events and implies a need for change. Furthermore, Stanton uses the conflict between the law of man and the law of God to support his cause: "she must respect her statutes, even if they deprive her of all inalienable rights, and come into conflict with this higher law written by the finger of God on his own soul.
