  • Essay / High School Behaviors and Observation - 1746

Introduction/ObservationsHumans are going through an important stage in their lives where they make decisions and decisions that can potentially change their lives. Going through the stages of adolescence offers the opportunity to become socially involved, to become something and to succeed. But before all that, you have to go to high school. My internship takes place at Waterloo Collegiate Institute in a grade 9-10 English as a Second Language program. I spend my time volunteering in two separate classes. The first class I volunteered in was a 9th grade math class of four students. My responsibility in this class is to help students with their homework, class work, and any other questions that may relate to what they are studying. These four students are part of the ESL program at Waterloo Collegiate Institute. Student interaction does not matter in this class because there are not enough students to capture their relationships other than being in the same class. The second class I am a part of is an ESL English class where there are many students from different parts of the world. The students in this class arrived in Canada between last week and a few years ago. My responsibility in the classroom is to help students write, read and understand in order to improve their mastery of the English language. The students in the class have different skill levels when it comes to their understanding of the English language. Behaviors are much more visible in this class because there are many more students who can be observed. One of the observations that was made was that there was a tendency for students to interact with other students of the same background. This is probably due to a higher level of comfort when in the middle of paper......iens. Additionally, the study should be conducted using families of the same ethnic origin. Given that being at school involves making friends and interacting with peers, it would be interesting to see if parents have any influence on their child's choice of friends from the same ethnic background or of a person of different origin. Additionally, does the choice depend on how long the parents have been in the country? This study would use questionnaires that parents and children would answer. This way there is a comparison to see if the family is on the same path and involved with each other or not. The hypothesis would be that extended adolescent-parent relationships do indeed have an impact on the friends chosen by children. This would be due to the great influence that parents exert on their child and the teachings and ideas that they share with them..
