  • Essay / Modern Love and the Use of Love by Hannah Selinger - 1677

She becomes terrified and embarrassed and runs away because she thinks he only stays with her because his devotion was more like a curse than a true love. In this text, we find lots of comparisons and metaphors like: “These calves, I swear, like bricks” (Rassette, 31 years old), “He kept his dreams about us hidden, hoarded them like these station receipts -service that he kept hidden. gets stuck in the back pocket of his jeans” (Rassette, 32), “It’s charming, but in a dusty way, like the chime of an old clock” (Rassette, 34), “Now I felt shriveled and curled up, more like a fetus feasting on a Siamese than a mother giving birth to a son” (Rassette, 31 years old); This quote can also fall into the image category, although it is a little too gory for readers to read about love. I chose this piece of text because it's one of those cliché stories where there's always a happy ending. It is also told in the first person, with the other two.
