  • Essay / Animal testing should be banned - 1020

A canary in the kitchen detects carbon monoxide! Animal testing should be banned for unnecessary testing. Animals should not be guinea pigs. Animals always feel pain when they are injected with medicine, just like humans. Humans can fight back and stop the pain, but animals are tied up and can't move. It is better to do animal testing because it helps find cures faster. Animal testing should be banned for unnecessary testing because many animals die for no reason. Ninety-four percent of animal testing is done to determine the safety of cosmetics and household products (Animal Testing 1). Only six percent remains for medical research (1). Ninety percent of all animals used in research are rats and mine (Animals used in experiments 4). Cosmetic testing is banned in Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (1). In the United States, many companies continue to legally conduct horrific animal testing (1). The United States Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission do not require animal testing for cosmetics or household products (1). The Animal Welfare Act is the only federal law to require basic standards of care, housing, and treatment for animals kept in laboratories for analytical purposes (4). The LD50 test is one of the worst tests developed in 1927 and still used today (1). Groups of animals are given different amounts of a test substance to determine which one kills half of the animals (1)! Animals are force-fed this substance (1). Why would we want to subject poor animals to this kind of suffering for no reason? Society animals can be their world. Animal lovers in society would probably give anything to make papers and are like humans (3). Scientists, on the other hand, believe that it is necessary to put animals in danger because they are trying to find a cure for the human population for all the diseases that exist in the world(3). Animal testing should be banned as it is unnecessary, because why would the government want to put humans through the same thing as animals? Animals should not be used as guinea pigs for the horrific tests that scientists put them through. Animals must be able to be free and not need to be tied up and force-fed. Animals feel pain just as well as a human, but a human can walk away from the pain and say “no.” Sometimes it's better to test on animals to find a cure for cancer, HIV and other diseases, but the government and scientists should find another way to do this without killing so many animals..
