Essay / An Analysis of the Religion of Jehovah's Witnesses a group of overly nice people, all dressed in suits and nice clothes, show up at your door and offer a sample of flyers (large or small). For most of the general public, this religion is a far cry from Christianity, but this is untrue, as a visit to any of the services offered by the congregation does. Arriving at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses building, there was nothing particularly different. about it except that there was no cross outside or a bell tower. Arriving about half an hour early, we were greeted with a handshake and an almost too friendly smile from a member of the congregation. As we waited for the service to begin, more and more people began streaming into the building. Slowly conversations between members and non-members, including myself. After about twenty minutes, the discussions resumed and people began to sit down. The interior of the room was well lit, with no benches, but there were many chairs connected by metal bolts at the bottom of each chair. Surprisingly, there was no cross or altar. First, the service began with singing, just like any regular church would. We sang a songbook that they had provided to us. After the singing, there was a guest speaker from Bagley, Minnesota. The speaker spoke to the congregation on Bible topics, his talk lasting about three-quarters of an hour. Then the priest took the podium and thanked the guest for coming. Then the priest led another song, sung from the songbook. Next, the congregation led a Bible discussion based on an article in the weekly magazine of Jehovah's Witnesses, The Watchtower. The article had to deal with what is essential in our lives. The discussion lasted another hour and fifteen minutes, with questions at the end of each paragraph. The difference with the questions was that members of the congregation answered some questions with the help of two men who stood in the back and held microphones on sticks so they could be heard. Once the Bible discussion was over, the service concluded with another song from the songbook.&n...... middle of paper ...... The religion of Jehovah's Witnesses, however friendly it may be , was also closed-minded like most other Christian religions. It had the same ambiance and atmosphere of a Christian religion, but it didn't have the same beauty of a church, which was more like a seminary. During the service, I learned that Jehovah's Witnesses are not that different in their lives or beliefs. I find it difficult to understand why other faiths view religion as straying from the Christian faith, when they follow the guidelines of the Bible itself. The reason for misunderstanding is ignorance and knowing that the gap can be bridged, but even with the knowledge gained, sometimes acceptance of that knowledge fails, as is very true in religious society. Unfortunately, there are very few religions that accept other beliefs, religions that teach tolerance. Maybe religion isn't to blame, maybe it's people's fundamental stubbornness. From what I have seen, religion today is like a cola you drink, a type of pizza you eat, a certain style of clothes you wear, rather than a lifestyle. From what I've seen, a small percentage of people don't follow her..
