    Scandinavia is a vast region with many musical traditions and practices. Although Scandinavian music has very traditional roots, much modern music also comes from this region; much of which was influenced by the traditional music and practices of the Scandinavian people. First of all, it is important to note that Scandinavia is made up of various countries: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Although these countries are in different geographic areas, they are similar in their cultures. Many countries in the Scandinavian region retain at least some of their traditional practices and often share common factors such as instrumentation, dance, and vocal styles with other Scandinavian countries. Over time, most, if not all, of these countries transformed their traditional practices into modern ones and some even became well known to other ethnic groups outside of Scandinavia. A common tradition found in much early Scandinavian music was the practice of circle dancing. This seems to have started in the Nordic countries where dancing was usually accompanied by sung ballads. The only region that seems to have fully preserved these dance traditions is the Faroe Islands region. The reason is that although the Faroe Islands have their roots in Nordic culture, they have been isolated from many cultural movements and renaissances that have occurred throughout Scandinavia (such as the Roots Revival), explaining why they have retained a divine part of the traditional culture that was introduced there. Although they have retained much of their traditional culture, there is also a fair amount of contemporary music in the Faroe Islands. It is a region that has managed to maintain its traditions while leaving room for new forms of expression. It's a region that has always attracted public attention, and with modern influences such as Bjork, Roxette, ABBA and films like "Frozen", it will only become more relevant. As the public becomes more aware of Scandinavian culture as a whole, previously established traditions and practices will begin to take note..
