Sex TraffickingThroughout the 21st century, the number of human beings captured and subjected to sex trafficking and prostitution has increased. In 2013, approximately 270,000 young boys, girls, and women were forced into human trafficking in the United States alone, and there are an estimated 20.9 million worldwide. The UN also estimates that nearly 4,000,000 people are trafficked each year. UNICEF estimates that up to 50% of all trafficking victims worldwide are minors and that up to two-thirds of these adolescents are at some point forced into the sex trade. This is a $52 billion industry. Two children are sold every minute, 120 per hour. In other cases, the mothers of these children sold them for money for financial reasons, forcing these children to commit this horrible crime that no one should be a part of. What is human/sex trafficking itself? This is a version of slavery in which young women and minors are harbored and forced into prostitution. This is a major problem not only in foreign countries, but also in the United States. In the United States, prostitution and human trafficking are among the top 10 most common violations, number 1 in countries like China, Ghana, Haiti, etc. The numbers are rising, but why is no one trying to stop this heinous crime? Law enforcement is not taking enough action to stop this horrific offense. Instead, they spend more time on (insert different crimes).
