As some critics have argued, postmodernism represents a departure from the modernist notion that architecture should be technologically rational, austere, and functional. Discuss how a postmodern architect developed strategies that overcome these trends. Juxtaposition is between the characteristics of early 20th-century modern architecture and the artistic efforts of postmodernism that followed. To represent the notion "Less is More" (R.Venturi, 1966, p. 16) that modernist trends had adopted, Robert Venturi built a "Ghost" "Structure", to imply the architecture, had no longer become a form of art and was only a “spectator” (Architecturerevived, 2011) in society. This essay will discuss the ways in which architect Robert Venturi adopts methods to overcome these trends that architecture has lost its meaning. and the manner in which he attempts to remove himself from any connection with the "post-modernist" movement he is seen to have. Modern architects saw their role as “reformers” (R. Venturi, 1966, p. 16) and tended to break with tradition and start again. Considering this to be a new revolutionary movement, they tended to ignore potential problems and focus on the new modern advances available. A modernist tendency was to build individually, but Venturi asserted that “a building derives its meaning from its context” (Out Of the Ordinary, 2002). and obviously, each individual location requires a different form of architectural style to represent it. In Venturi's book "Complexity and Contradiction", he cites "familiar things seen in an unfamiliar context become perceptually new as well as old" (R. Venturi, 1966, p. 43). Here he perhaps means that for art to become worthy of aesthetic appreciation, the v...... middle of paper ...... a physical architecture in which, according to him, it does not we must not forget but rather admire and inspire future movements. Although modernism suppressed what Venturi believed to be the "art" of architecture, he fought to overcome these trends by drawing on relevant historical features and characterizations and applying them liberally to his design , in accordance with their context. Nevertheless, he understood that it was important to design for the user and not exclude social issues. He embraced the modernist concept of advanced means of construction and recognized and understood the developing society, but he chose not to ignore historical references and to apply them in a layered system in his designs to accommodate the advanced civilization while choosing to apply asceticism to both. a functional and visual experience.
