Essay / Psychology: the study of human thought and behavior
“The scientific study of human thought and behavior” (Feist, 2013, p. 6) is how psychology has been defined in the world today. Over the centuries, it has been used to assess and assist in the healing process of people suffering from mental problems. It is also used as a way to understand how a person thinks and to prove the reasoning behind a decision made. Today, psychologists use it as a “practice for diagnosing and treating thought and behavior problems” (Feist, 2013, p. 6). Psychology allows for growth in the field of science and social behavior. It also brings new perspectives to the people of this world and what they have to offer. Psychology is a way to understand how humanity can improve and how it has grown in recent years. This specific type of study provides opportunities for improvement and the ability to operate more effectively in the years to come. However, it is not just about gaining a simple understanding of history, but psychology is an insight into how and what makes a person who they are. These studies can range from infancy to seniors and from small to large groups. There can be a large amount of factors or small amounts that will cause results in behavior and thinking. With that said, let's take a deeper look at psychology and what it has to say. In order to further explain psychology, we need to go back in time to see the big picture. Here's a brief history lesson on psychology and how it has transformed over the years. Let's start with the basics of its foundation, which dates back to prehistoric times. “Thousands of years ago, humans drilled holes in the skull to treat brain damage and perhaps also mental anguish” (Feist, 2013, p. 34). Humans were trying to understand people...... middle of paper ... because he was focused on the price in general and this particular child loved candy. It's pretty obvious that this is just a simple and vague example, but hopefully some theory will be understood. To conclude, psychology is a science capable of advancing the understanding of human behavior. Its history dates back to prehistoric times and has continued over the years. There is still a lot to understand in psychology and in this world, there is only time. Psychology uses independent and dependent variables in experiments. It also uses the scientific method in the process in order to prove a hypothesis through the use of theories. This continuous circle of study and application of discovered information is endless. Perhaps one day psychology will become the main process by which a human grows mentally..
