His bank account was wiped out by the IRS for unpaid taxes and there was less than thirty dollars in it. Additionally, he and his son were spending some nights in the subway station bathrooms because Chris couldn't pay his rent. Chris struggles throughout the film as he tries to deal with his office job and the long lines outside the church where homeless people can spend the night. Despite all the difficulties he goes through, he never shows a sign of weakness. His motivation and consistency are inspiring and edifying for the viewer. The work ethic reminds viewers of the hard-working blue-collar class, as Chris is willing to work and sacrifice to overcome all difficulties and preserve in order to provide the best for his son. As he finishes his internship, he is called again to the boss's office where he is offered a permanent job in the company. This moment of realization causes an immense wave of emotions for Chris and for the viewer as the final on-screen captions describe how he would later become a successful multi-millionaire and open his own brokerage.
