The relationship between height and weight of studentsINTRODUCTIONIn this investigation, I intend to find out if there is a relationship between height and weight in students students, and how this relationship changes between girls and boys, with age. I chose to study the relationship between height and weight because I believe that height and weight are the only two categories that will give a clear correlation. If I were to study the relationship between two other categories, such as eye color and IQ, I believe that, as interesting and amusing as the results are, they would not provide too clear a relationship or conclusive information. The data provided provides information on 1,183 girls and boys at Mayfield High School, who were placed in their year groups. These age ranges begin with students entering adolescence and end in mid-adolescence. In order to be able to compare girls and boys each year, I will represent the height and weight distribution for both sexes each year in various forms. I plan to use stem and leaf plots, scatter plots, and box plots, as well as a wide range of calculated data, like the average of heights and weights, their interquartile range, and their index body mass. The data that will be represented will not be all the data. provided that, as if I were to do this, I would plot 2366 reference points, which would be ideal, but time does not allow that number of points. So instead, I'm going to take a stratified sample of the total data and use that sample in the survey. From these representations of the data, conclusions will be drawn about how the relationship between height and weight changes with age and sex, but before this is done, any abnormal data points will be taken into account. taken into account, so that they do not affect the overall conclusions. Hypothesis The following hypotheses were formulated to predict the outcome of
