    We need calculators in the classroomTechnology has become an important part of our lives and our society. Almost everything we use involves the use of computers. Over the past few years, technology has been improved and updated, which has made our lives easier and more efficient, thereby making us more advanced than the rest of the world. I strongly believe in the importance of calculators in the classroom because they teach children to expand their knowledge of math and science from a young age. This can give students a variety of ways to approach problems while expanding their knowledge of the topic. If our school has the opportunity to apply for a grant allowing every student and teacher to have their own calculator, we should not hesitate to accept this offer. Using calculators in the classroom is a very controversial issue and there are many pros and cons. In many schools, you will find teachers who don't like calculators because they feel like students rely on them a lot and end up losing basic math skills or just becoming lazy. Gordon Clavert wrote an article titled “An Addiction to Technology and Algorithms or a Lack of Number Sense? » In this article, he explains that when he gives calculators to his students, they lose all sense of thought. He explains how disturbed he is when he sees a child putting 9+4 into the calculator, because it should be easily calculated in his head. Instead, they choose to rely on the calculator. While I understand Calvert's point, I would say it depends on how the teacher teaches the subject. Teachers do have an impact on how material is taught and technology can be a valuable tool rather than a negative one.
