Essay / Humans Living in Harmony with Nature - 1982
There is no better example of humans' relationship with nature than the idea of sustainable development. It is imperative that we develop sustainably if we wish to live in harmony with nature. Unfortunately, we have moved in the opposite direction. For many years, the West has managed to use more than its fair share of resources because less developed countries lack the technology to use these resources for themselves. If this trend continues, it will pose a serious problem for global sustainability. The rapid development of countries like India and China has pushed their resource consumption levels upward, narrowing the gap between the Third World and the First World. With such a high rate of consumption in developed countries, there is not much room for development in the third world without depleting our resources to unsustainable levels. The whole world cannot live the same wasteful life that many developed countries experience. If nothing is done, the South will catch up with Western consumption levels and we will no longer be able to ensure the life of future generations. After studying this question, it becomes clear that the best solution is to develop the West to a level of sustainability that is universally applicable and allows less developed countries to live the same lifestyle as the West without compromising the means livelihood of future generations. This essay will go on to explain how the Western way of life is not a viable option for everyone and how developing countries are in fact already following the path of these Western nations. Western Lifestyles The alarming rate of consumption in the West does not receive the attention it deserves. With 22 percent of the world's population being in the middle of paper to support us for a limited time. Conclusion It's only a matter of time before we start to see this problem become even more serious. a reality. Developing countries are progressing rapidly to Western levels of development and this is by no means sustainable. If nothing is done, too many people will attempt to live the extravagant lifestyle of the West and will not even have sufficient resources to accommodate them. We must bring already developed countries to reach the 6th stage of post-material society before less developed countries catch up. When the less developed countries finally reach the level of the West, the earth will be able to feed us much longer than if we all lived the pointless lives of Western citizens today. It is much more beneficial for all humanity to allow everyone to share a common level of development rather than having a double standard of living..
