I grew up in Kenya until I was about eleven years old. Kenya was very beautiful and fun. The weather was fine; the people were kind, generous and helpful. I rarely felt like an outsider or an outcast. As they say, “It takes a village to raise a child.” In Kenya, the whole neighborhood consisted of my parents, my siblings, etc. If I did something naughty, the nearest adult would take care of it. Everywhere I went, it felt like home. I miss the feeling of knowing that everyone around you truly cares about you and your success. Ever since I arrived here at the University of Manitoba, I have felt alienated from people. Almost no one talks to anyone. The population is so large that it almost feels like you're living in a college town. I miss everything about the country I grew up in. In particular, I miss my childhood because Kenya is where I spent most of my childhood. So it will forever be special to
