  • Essay / Victimization of women - 1172

“People dominate animals, men dominate women. » Each is a relationship of hierarchy, an inequality, with particularities and variations within and between them. (Quote from the book Orange p. 92.) For centuries, women have been considered and used as the "property" of men, whether for sexual gratification or for bearing children and taking care of the home. Men are generally seen as the heads of the family and everything they say goes; everything to satisfy their thirst for power and control. Have women ever had a say in how they want to use their bodies? The laws against rape may have changed over time, but unfortunately the constant aggressive behavior of men has not. Dating from the Ancien Régime, referring primarily to the social and political era established in France from the 15th to the 18th centuries, several cases of women being attacked and sexually harassed by men to the point that the man's sword was drawn . Fearing for their lives, they were unable to call for help with a deadly weapon that influenced the outcome of their situation. (Quote Book 1) Justice systems “tolerated” this type of violence to the point that the perpetrator had little or no repercussions for their violent actions. “Sexual violence was part of a system where violence reigned almost naturally for no apparent reason [to us]; children were beaten by adults, women by men or other women, servants by their masters. It would have seemed very artificial, in such circumstances, to isolate sexual crime from other forms of aggression which were constantly present, or latent, in...... middle of paper ...... rilutions of blame in sexual matters cases of assault. Many laypeople assume that a victim will fight physically to prevent sexual assault, although research indicates that victims do not fight physically for a variety of reasons (i.e. drugs, fear, shock, coercion, etc. .). In one of the first studies of its kind, Sorta, it was found that women who did not show obvious resistance were less likely to be considered to have been sexually assaulted. (Quote article 5) “Women are the animals of the human kingdom, the mice of the world of men. Women and animals are identified with nature rather than culture by virtue of biology. Masculine ideology imagines that both are fundamentally inferior to men and humans. . . Qualities considered human and superior are denied to animals at the same time as qualities considered masculine and superior are denied to women” (MacKinnon, 2005).
