  • Essay / Educational interpreters and early childhood...

I had never delved into the requirements of the profession of educational interpreter. Until now, I never realized the importance of the primary school years. Since many deaf children are born to hearing parents, it would be vital for me as an interpreter to introduce the child to ASL until he or she is exposed to the deaf community. It is also important that I understand teachers' tactics so that I can impact the deaf student and enable them to be as successful as their hearing counterparts. I now realize that being a performer in the primary years will really influence the child's success later.
