Essay / Abortion should remain legal - 685
A woman walks down a dark alley. She has a bag full of money that she has collected and is going to see a man who will probably scam her. This woman is not what you think, she is having an illegal abortion by an untrained surgeon. Many said abortion was a crime against humanity, taking the innocent lives of unborn children. But the real crime would be to deprive women of their rights and well-being. Abortions must remain legal because the lack of legal abortions will lead to an increase in unsafe illegal abortions, abortion is a woman's right, and motherhood has a negative effect on women who are not ready. If abortions are banned, it will only lead to illegal abortions. which are particularly dangerous for women's health. “The proportion of abortion patients who were poor increased by almost 60%, from 27% in 2000 to 42% in 2008” (Clark-Flory). “Clandestine” abortions are still available to the desperate who cannot afford better illegal abortions. Cheaper alternatives to the best illegal abortions may lack proper equipment and are usually performed in an unsanitary environment (Arons and Saperstine). This increases the risk of infection. It has also been proven that illegal abortions can cause injury and infertility (Arons and Saperstine). Leaving women unable to take legal action, considering their abortion to be illegal in the first place. The World Health Organization says that 78,000 women around the world die each year as a result of unsafe abortions. Although legal abortions can also go wrong, the risk is minimal. If abortion remains legal, surgeons with the necessary qualifications and years of training can perform abortions safely. Illegal or not, the right to abortion should be accessible to all women. Women...... middle of paper ...... also leave women eager to benefit from family planning when they are emotionally and mentally ready. An unplanned pregnancy can be frightening, which is why abortion should be offered as an option to any woman who is not ready to take on the responsibility of a child.
