The benefits of social media tools like Facebook and LinkedIn will continue to be debated. Many studies and surveys were conducted in a company that employed more than 100 information workers worldwide. The study showed that their associates' productivity increased by 46% through the use of social media tools for communication and learning new ideas. (Nanji, 2013). Added to this is the 42% of employers who say social media tools have led to greater collaboration in the workplace. In fact, 34% of agency employees still believe that their management underestimates the benefits of social networks (Nanji, 2013). In White's (2010) article, she states that in various global companies, information workers whose companies provided access to Facebook experienced a 1.5% decline in employee productivity. However, with every new tool implemented in the workplace, there are risks and social media is no exception. Companies that restrict social media today have very few statistics to support their determination. So there is no doubt today that most organizations use social media as collaboration tools for employees to collect data through internal and external communications. However, it all depends on how an organization will manage these changes and how it will use social media in the workplace that will impact learning and engagement.
