The definition of green technology, in simple terms, means environmentally friendly technology, developed and used in a way that does not disturb our environment and retains natural properties. You may also hear that green technology is called environmental technology and clean technology. In the early stages of its development, the future only leaves possibilities to bring bigger and better things to this field. This will in fact be a constraint of the future. Green for everyday language refers to a color. But in construction and surveying, green has a more valuable meaning than it is. Green always symbolizes environmentally friendly behavior. Sustainable construction is construction work that uses natural energy resources, materials and land to minimize the total impact on the environment and develop a hygienic environment by optimizing its design, construction, operation and maintenance. According to the US Green Building Council (2013), LEED is a controlled, consent-based program that allows a third party to evaluate any type of green building. The LEED rating system is based on a credit earning system. To achieve LEED rating, you need to earn more points by implementing different types of sustainable strategies...... middle of paper ...... The Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) is the The local regulatory body that works in Sri Lanka. GBCSL has implemented a separate sustainable rating system called GREENSL. It has been formulated to conform to all acceptable standards in other major international sustainability rating systems. The GREENSL rating system aims to satisfy with environmentally acceptable design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings. The GREENSL credit system has eight main elements. In total, there are 100 credits to be earned in this grading system. These are as follows: Management (4 credits) Social and cultural awareness (4 credits) Innovation and design process (4 credits) Indoor environmental quality (13 credits) Materials and resources ( 14 credits) Energy and atmosphere (22 credits) Water efficiency (14 credits) Sustainable designs (25 credits))
