Oceans generate half of the oxygen people breathe. Air pollution is responsible for 33% of toxic contaminants found in oceans and coastal waters. When factories produce smoke, it ends up being trapped in the ocean, contributing to dead spots. In the ocean, there are many dead spots or dead zones, in which life cannot survive; this is due to lack of oxygen. Even though we can clean up these dead spots, we choose not to. Think about the biggest landfill you've ever seen, filled with all kinds of bottles and trash. The largest landfill is in the oceans, about twice the size of Texas.
