What American explorers called "undiscovered" were actually Native American hunting grounds, homes, and gardens. Without the food, shelter, transportation, and important geographic information provided by the Native Americans, the expedition would not have accomplished as many tasks as it did. They probably wouldn't survive. Sacajawea represents cooperation between the natives and the Corps of Discovery. Although she was not entirely a guide, her presence signaled to the many Native American tribes that the Corps of Discovery was not a guide.
