  • Essay / Christian Institutions - 652

In this ever-changing world, we are today moving away from the worldview of God and Christ. We achieve this by living in a society in which we are excepted as an object, we are excepted as classified to fit into social groups, we except that our value lies in what we do and what we have. All of these statements I have made are true for modern beliefs. Unfortunately, these beliefs are exactly what society has created for itself and the people who live in it today. As each generation advances, I feel like the idea that you are an individual competing in this world is pushed, rather than in God's world; how the world should be, loving everyone as their neighbor. In a world that is losing the identity of being one, of loving our neighbor, institutions based on Christianity are sparking the revolution of our return to the word of God and leading the world/people the way it should work. Currently, these organizations reach out not only to members of their communities, but also to individual families and, more importantly, to the next generation. An example of a Christian institution that does this is an educational system. Having been in Cincinnati for about three years now, I have worked for Holy Family Parish and worked closely with their school. The school applies the principles of social justice in everything it does to unite the community to teach everyone that everyone has a right to life, that the weak and poor are most cared for and that protect/respect God’s creation. The school hosts events where anyone around the community is welcome, not just the family of the children attending or the students. When church time comes, they open the doors to everyone; they even recently, yes... middle of paper ...... principles but are also linked to the principles of Beatitude. Each institution does this because it is through the Beatitudes that we realize that we are different, but united. This difference is what binds us as living beings, as human beings. This leads us to self-evaluate our lives and turn to those who are suffering. We learn that if we don't change we will experience hunger, thirst, disease that people around the world alleviate if we don't help them, and that living by modern beliefs that wanting more, having more is what makes us powerful and unique will leave us with a feeling of longing that we can never satisfy. It is by being poor, merciful, etc. that we feel whole, that we can live in unity with our neighbors because it is right that our neighbors, our brothers and sisters have the same things as us; the essentials for living.
