    Anyone who loves literature or cinema has the 19th century Romantics to thank. Romantic ideals are now so ingrained in the thinking of these societies that most do not even realize that it is romantic thinking. Nowadays, almost every movie or book contains a trace of romance. Romanticism arose around the 1800s in contradiction with rationalism. Rationalism was a thought that attempted to use rational thought and reason to solve the problems faced at the time. Romanticism is fundamentally the opposite of these thoughts. Romanticism is described as “a revolt against rationalism which affected literature and the other arts, beginning in the late 18th century. » (“Elements of literature”, page 1179). Romanticism instead bases its problem solving on each person's intuition and feelings. Romanticism focuses on the power of the imagination and praises individuality. Romantics also find inspiration in the supernatural, legends, myths and popular culture. (1) Romantic ideas draw inspiration from art, focus on spiritual and aesthetic dimensions, and use metaphors about organic growth. It was this era that inspired Edgar Allan Poe. Poe took the basics of Romanticism and gave them a darker twist, creating mystery and horror, which can be found in many works today. Poe's works are now very popular and he is considered the best black romantic (3). The works of Edgar Allan Poe reflect the Romantic period through their creativity, little-known characters, and use of emotion. The Romantic movement focused on human imagination and the power of the mind. Poe's stories are nothing short of pure imagination and creativity. They are full of exotic situations that create strange atmospheres. In Poe's story, "The Raven", the medium of paper literature and cinema could be very different. Edgar Allan Poe revolutionized the Romantic era with his many works.
