  • Essay / The Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty - 910

In 1910, Japan successfully colonized Korea through the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty. Beginning in 1919, mass protests broke out highlighting the widespread mistreatment of Koreans and the need for independence from imperialist Japan. The March 1 Movement of 1919 resulted in the creation of modern Korea. Without the protest, the Korean Declaration of Independence would not have been drafted and signed, the provincial government of Korea would have been delayed, and Korean liberation would not have been formed or would have been formed later. In January 1919, President Wilson delivered a speech on the right to "self-determination" at the Paris Peace Conference where many world powers gathered to discuss how to avoid a major bloodbath like during the First World War. Wilson gave fourteen "points" in his speech to avoid the deaths of millions like those in World War I. He stressed that the First World War began because it resulted in a "violation of rights" and led to countless bloodshed because important issues, notably territories, were not resolved. not discussed, which led to war. Wilson's resolve to tensions between the countries included peace and diplomacy. Although it was not about Korea, students studying in Tokyo heard about this speech, which made them think about peaceful protests against Japan and diplomacy before acts of war. It was from this inspiration that the students issued a declaration on a movement for independence from Japan. Another rise in tensions occurred when Korea's beloved emperor, Gojong, died for unknown reasons. The Korean people believed that the Japanese had poisoned them. At that time, poisoning of influential leaders was common, and some Koreans decided in the midst of military action in Korea to gain independence. Thus, it can be said that the March 1 Movement of 1919 directly led to the formation of modern Korea. The March 1 Movement of 1919 led to the creation of modern Korea. Without the March 1 Movement of 1919, the Korean Declaration of Independence would not have been written because the independence movement was born with the signing of the document. Additionally, the provincial government of Korea, which played a vital role in the rebellion against imperialist Japan, would have been delayed and the protests would not have been as well planned, leading to more deaths or confusion over the future movements. Additionally, the Korean Liberation Army would not have been formed or would have been formed earlier because the provincial government decided to create an army. In conclusion, the March 1st Movement of 1919 directly influenced today's Korea..
