According to the conference, Wilson proposed "the need for more African American playwrights." Additionally, he provided roles specifically written for African American actors and directors. Ultimately, his goal was to help establish a stronger community of African American audiences. Through Fences, he was able to show the daily life of an African-American family and the struggles they had to go through. The struggles they faced were primarily due to their race. Finally, at present we know that they are not inferior at all, the black community is on the same level as everyone else.
