    The current generation of young people, known as Generation Y, grew up with the Internet. They use it for social media, search, and gaming. It is difficult for many young people in this group to imagine that there was a time when text messaging, email, blogs, online news media, e-books or social media did not exist. -- where people talked on the phone, visited, and engaged in face-to-face conversation with each other. Many young adults, especially teenagers and middle schoolers, need the constant stimuli and instant gratification that only the Internet can provide. Consequently, this has given rise to a generation of young people who are lazy learners, have shorter attention spans, and often lack familiarity and knowledge on general topics. The Internet has become the main source of information gathering. Students no longer find it necessary to remember facts, or to digest and understand their assignments, as they use online search engines, such as Google, to find information.
