Julius Caesar was a very influential figure in Roman history. Many features of the Roman Empire stem from its dictatorial rule. But what precisely were some of these great achievements? In this research paper, I will explain the early life of Julius Caesar, the Roman Republic before Caesar came to power, the Roman government before Caesar became dictator for life, the effects of Julius Caesar, the reasons for his assassination and its effects. when the public learned of his assassination. Julius Caesar, born Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus Augustus, was born into a family of patricians. In fact, he was able to trace his lineage back to Romulus, the first king of Rome (Gill, NS). His birth, around July 12, 100 BC, marks a new departure for Rome (Julius Caesar). Caesar was a talented negotiator, and this helped him in his rise to power. Julius Caesar began his political career by becoming a prosecutor. Around 68 BC he was elected quaestor, a Roman official elected annually. You had to become a quaestor before becoming a senator. Around 60 BC, Caesar became governor of the province of Spain (Gill, Nova Scotia). His rise to power was extremely rapid. In 59 BC, an alliance with his rival Pompey allowed him to be elected consul, which in the Roman Republic was the highest elective office. Julius Caesar's political power increased rapidly. Rome, as a whole, lasted about 1,200 years. The Roman Empire was a time of great expansion. In fact, at its peak, Rome had an area of 1.062 million square kilometers (the area of the Roman Empire).
