  • Essay / Online Learning: The Pros and Cons of Online Learning...

Technology requirements may be the highest on the list for several reasons. Although college is expensive, it is a well-known fact that online education requires that the student own at least a computer. With the computer comes the cost of paying Internet fees and acquiring a solid antivirus protection program (Rauch, Joseph). Several different software programs may be required for a certain class, which can be costly, especially for the type that must be renewed often for an additional price. Interacting with an online instructor can be more difficult because they typically have a limited role in teaching. Students who need one-on-one interaction may find online classes too difficult. Online classes can also be difficult for procrastinators because assignment deadlines seem so far away given the many freedoms that online teaching offers. This can lead to procrastinators quickly typing a paper in the middle of the night, with the deadline looming worryingly close to the Grim Reaper's. Some self-discipline is necessary for success for those who choose to take online courses.
