Essay / Mask Thinking Unit - 1090
The second unit of the drama class at Jarvis is about masks, how to make them and how to act with them. This unit is probably one of the most enjoyable drama units because it combines hands-on activities and drama. Masks are a very important piece of art in many plays and shows. Using masks during a performance allows the actor to become more than one character and enhances their acting ability by allowing them to experience different personalities. Masks in theater are also used to express and reinforce character and story, creating distance between the actor on stage and the character in the story. Additionally, sometimes an actor is not able to create a facial expression in which masks come into play. Masks are used all over the world for cultural and/or religious purposes. Our show consisted of an old woman, in the doctor's waiting room with an annoying child. As I mentioned before, by the time of this performance, my mask had transformed into its own person, and it was an adventure to perform it on stage. I also learned about other performances, one in particular involved a model and an old man in a club. This performance really helped me because I noticed that the model and my character had similar personalities, and during their performance I noticed that the model's acting was imagining my character doing this..
