    ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IS A BIG PROBLEM. HOW CAN WE REDUCE IT?The problemAntibiotics have played a vital role in the treatment of infectious diseases in humans and animals for many years. Their discovery has been described as the miracle of the 20th century [1]. However, the overuse of antibiotics has caused the emergence of a new problem, antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics completely changed medical care in the 1940s. It also saved many lives over the years. The most important role of antibiotics is to treat a range of harmful diseases caused by bacteria, and in the early years, antibiotics developed faster than bacteria developed resistance. Between the 1950s and 1960s, scientists managed to discover many new antibiotics, but in the 1980s and 1990s they could only improve existing ones. A report from the Permanent Medical Advisory Committee indicates that micro-organisms are progressing and that no more antibiotics are being discovered [2]. Bacteria generally live on and in all creatures. Not all bacteria are pathogenic (disease-producing), in fact, many are harmless. Pathogenic bacteria can cause very serious infections. Before the discovery of antibiotics, many deaths were due to bacterial infections [1]. Penicillin was the first antibiotic discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. He observed a set of culture dishes used to grow staphylococci. He saw that mold was growing around the staph. This mold produced a bacteria-free ring around it. Two other scientists, Florey and Chain, developed penicillin into an effective medicine. Penicillin has been tested for over 20 years on humans and animals. Dr. Klose holds a PhD in microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley and completed postdoctoral work in microbial pathogenesis at Harvard Medical School. This means it’s not a random person talking about the issue; in fact, he knows about bacteria and he has studied about it. Dr. Klose may be a biased scientist, which would mean he only speaks from his point of view. While looking for other sources, I noticed that what he said was on other sites, so this source is reliable.
