  • Essay / Effects of Dropping Out of School - 1283

Mentors help children understand and communicate their feelings, relate to peers, develop relationships with other adults, and stay in school. But of course, like any other solution, there will always be pros and cons. For example, one of the benefits of youth mentoring programs is that students will always have someone to turn to, whether for emotional, problematic, or even special moments they want to share with someone other than their parents, because let's be real, sometimes teenagers don't. I don't always want to talk to parents about things they do or feel because of what they might think or react. Another advantage is that these students will never be alone and will always be helped. A downside is that not all students will accept this type of mentoring program because they will think that this program is only for people with serious problems or people with disabilities. Which isn't really the case, but as they say "you can bring a pet a bowl of water but you can't force them to drink it." This sentence relates to this solution because help is offered but you cannot force a student to participate. There's only so much mentoring programs can do to try to do this.
