Jodi Arias: should she have received the death penalty? Jury finds Jodi Arias guilty of first degree murder of Travis Alexander. There is plenty of evidence against her. Jodi's alibi doesn't prove she was anywhere else at the time of the murder. Finally, Jodi changed her story several times during this trial. Now the question is: should she receive the death penalty? Here is an overview of the evidence and the decision will be made afterwards. Evidence There seemed to be almost endless evidence against Jodi Arias. Not only did a camera contain footage of Travis and Jodi's last sexual encounter on the day of her murder, but it was also found in the washing machine of Travis' home in Mesa, Arizona (International Business, Times para. 9). The camera's memory card contained the photos shown as well as a few other interesting images. There were “…photos of Alexander in the shower – seconds before he died – and photos that appeared to have been taken accidentally when the camera was dropped. One of the images showed the bloodied body of Alexander…” (par. 9). The most shocking image found on camera showed bystander Jodi Arias dragging Travis Alexander across the ground (par. 9). Jodi was also rumored to have stolen her grandparents' .25 caliber pistol at the time their house was burglarized (Mclaughlin 13). Ironically, "in a recording played to the jury in Mesa, Arizona, Detective Esteban Flores told Arias: 'The gun that was stolen, a .25 automobile, happened to be the same caliber as the one used to kill him. » (Breuer par.6). This fact in itself should make Jodi the number one suspect since she was living with her grandparents at the time the caliber was stolen. AlibiJodi... middle of paper ...... was shot in the head, and his throat was also slit from ear to ear. Why would intruders do so much harm to a man who was supposed to be in the shower? Why did they spare Jodi's life but kill Travis so brutally? There can only be one explanation to these questions; Jodi Arias is guilty of the murder of Travis Alexander. The only question now is: Should Jodi Arias be sentenced to death? Karl Kahler wrote an article for the Oakland Tribune saying that Jodi was recorded stating, "I believe that death is the ultimate freedom." » (Kahler par. 22). This statement was recorded while she was seeking the death penalty. Jodi changed her mind and later said that "she really meant it but 'lacked perspective'" (Kahler par. 5) because "asking for death is tantamount to suicide" (Kahler par. 4). The jury has decided. Jodi Arias will be sentenced to death.
