One of the families does not approve of the marriage because they do not approve of same-sex marriages. They never call the mother to ask about the children nor do they want to get involved with other family members. There is little contact or support from extended family members. Parents' opinions are based on "old-fashioned", "old-fashioned", "the Bible says..." worldviews and it is clear in their minds that men and women have a place and a role specific in family life. This causes stress for children when visiting and spending time with their grandparents, as well as unnecessary stress and difficulty for children.
