    The external environment has not changed at all. MLB started in 1869 and it's not going anywhere anytime soon, this environment is extremely stable. That said, the environment within baseball is not very stable. Rosters are constantly changing, players are signed, waived or traded. This means that within the league, new threats and opportunities are always emerging. This doesn't just affect the roster, as managers and other personnel can be swapped and replaced, which could change the entire dynamic of the organization. The level of training and intelligence of Athletics personnel does not change. Although many have not attended school for their job, there is no true school for the baseball experience alone. Athletics had a lot of experience in their organization, so we can say that they were highly qualified for their job. Organizational goals are also something that did not change when the organization changed. The goals of the organization, however, depend on who you ask. Billy is seen talking to the team owner in one of the first scenes of the film. This is where we see the goals the owner has for the team. From this scene we can see that the owner doesn't really believe that his small market team can compete with these big teams.
