  • Essay / PICOT Model in Nursing - 957

Intervention refers to the treatment provided to the study population (Riva et all 2012). In this case, the intervention is the suggestion of compliance with the entire WHO Surgical Safety Checklist versus non-compliance or lack of completion of the full checklist. Full adherence to the checklist by the surgical team ensures the safety of patients undergoing surgical procedures, appropriate team communication, and beneficial outcomes for patients and staff. It would be beneficial, especially in emergency situations, to have a designated nurse in place to be responsible for the checklist to minimize the risk of errors being made by operational staff. Regardless of the severity of the emergency situation, the checklist should be evaluated in order to avoid any additional complications or errors and to provide accurate information to the team.
