It's extremely accessible and the majority of employers check it and do due diligence on you just by seeing the places and things you do outside of work. According to a survey of recent graduates conducted by online privacy company Abine Inc., "despite the fact that 69% of the class of 2013 do not yet have a job lined up, only 16% are devoting time to proactively improve their web presence. Don't be the person who doesn't care, be the person who gets hired. Employers should also review their social media policies to ensure they are not limiting protected employee speech, as you need to know what you are allowed and what you are not allowed to be able to be free to express what you want to say. They must ensure that employers are reasonable with policies, including employers' rights to restrict use of company equipment and to devote company time to non-work activities. These policies will be consistently enforced, so always be prepared for whatever comes your way.
