    “An estimated 3 million people in the United States have celiac disease” (US Food and Drug Administration). Because these three million people eating foods containing gluten damage their small intestines and expose them to other serious health problems such as intestinal cancers (US Food and Drug Administration). Due to the number of people with celiac disease, more and more products advertise that they are gluten-free. After doing some research at grocery stores online to see what gluten-free products they carried, I was shocked at how many gluten-free dessert products the grocery stores carried. So I decided to do a little more research to see if there were any naturally gluten-free products. What I discovered shocked me; There are several naturally gluten-free products, including: all fruits and vegetables, meats (unless breaded or fried with breadcrumbs which are not gluten-free), and honey (The Complete List of Gluten-Free Foods). So, with this information, I began researching the requirements for listing a product as gluten-free. In August 2013, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a rule that created a universal definition of "gluten-free" helping consumers be assured that products labeled "gluten-free" meet a standard defined in gluten content (US Food and Drug Administration).
