  • Essay / Movie Analysis: Ocean's Eleven - 1097

Final ReviewOcean's Eleven is an American heist film (first in the trilogy) and a remake of the 1960 version that features an ensemble cast consisting of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Andy Garcia. and Julia Roberts. Essentially, a heist movie has three elements: building the team and putting the plan in place, the break-in and looting, and then the escape. Ocean's Eleven covers all of these and more. The plot of the movie wasn't just about stealing money from casinos for the most part. The cinematography of Ocean's Eleven includes many beautiful shots of Las Vegas, including the Bellagio fountains towards the final scene of the film and the film has some very beautiful scenes. atmospheric details with the casinos, the gaming tables, with Las Vegas, and the break-in with the smoke and visuals. Director Soderbergh uses neon lighting throughout the film which goes along with the neon signs that surround Las Vegas. The director uses many cinematic elements to create meaning through each setting, non-and diegetic sounds throughout the film, for example the music that sets the mood and the diegetic sound of prison doors opening in the opening scene. There are also numerous close-up shots as well as established mid-range shots used throughout the film to capture the characters' facial expressions. There are also close-ups of Ocean's ring, which tells us it will be important later in the film. Additionally, when he leaves the prison, he is shown in a long shot through the cell bars, giving the audience a point of view (POV) perspective. There is another POV shot after the first opening scenes to introduce a new character Frank (Bernie Mac). The next important scene is a mid shot of Daniel O...... middle of paper ...... logical structure). I loved the mix of comedy and seriousness used as well as the intrigue and fast pace which makes you want to know more. It was fun, pretty clean and a movie that everyone could watch and compared to 1960's Ocean's Eleven, the remake is far better in every aspect. With enough true Hollywood star power to light up every neon sign in Nevada, Ocean's Eleven is a good, fun, old-fashioned Hollywood heist movie. Part of the fun of the film is that we feel like we're eavesdropping on real conversations and find ourselves leaning forward as if each of us were participating in conversations with them. Overall, this film will forever be one of the best films I have ever seen due to its fast pace and enjoyable style, filled with an all-star cast of actors that does not disappoint and also delivers smooth cinematography and entertainment..
