Essay / These are his thoughts on the supremacy and importance of love and heartbreak. Donne is valuable not only as a representative writer, but also as a completely unique writer. He was a man of contradictions: as a minister of the Anglican Church, Donne possessed a deep spirituality that connected his thoughts and feelings throughout his life. LANGUAGE The Broken Heart is constructed from effective linguistic devices that greatly increase the power of Donne's messages in the poem. Donne also uses various literary devices such as metaphors, similes, hyperbole and personification to reveal his bitter attitude towards the nature of love and show the meaning and importance of the theme.
