    After you graduate from college, you will apply for a job that you went to college for. Even if you are the most qualified for the job, you may not get the job. Affirmative action sometimes causes this phenomenon because companies must hire a certain number of minorities relative to the size of the company. This means that if there are no minority citizens available, immigrants who are not even U.S. citizens can fill the position. This is why affirmative action needs to be readjusted, because it helps immigrants instead of the people it was intended for, American citizens. The fact is that the current affirmative action plan helps immigrants more than it helps the American people. For example, millions of immigrants and foreign visitors are eligible for affirmative action benefits, and many actually use them, to give U.S.-born minorities a head start because they do not don't have enough American minorities to fill the positions. In fact, many of today's immigrants arrive in this country and find themselves at the front of the line. James Robb, senior analyst for The Social Contract, a quarterly journal and author of the study “Affirmative Action For Immigrants: The Entitlement Nobody Wanted,” gave an excellent example of how immigrants use affirmative action to their advantage . He states: “Of all U.S. science doctorates awarded in 1993, forty-six percent were awarded to foreigners. There have been ten doctorates in science awarded to non-citizen Asians, for every doctorate awarded to an Asian American” (Robb). It doesn't stop there, because after earning their doctorate, many immigrants will stay in the United States to look for work. This is bad for US citizens with PhDs because they struggle to find jobs, many of which are already filled by people who aren't even US citizens. It is serious that immigrants use affirmative action to their advantage. There is something wrong with giving opportunities to non-US citizens rather than US citizens. Yes, it's a big problem, because if you put non-citizens and U.S. citizens in the same job market, you're taking away opportunities from people who have lived here their whole lives. This creates a sense of hatred between US and non-US citizens, which is the last thing we need. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with giving job opportunities to immigrants because this is America, the land...... middle of paper ...... effective action would matter if and only if they are minority citizens, which would give U.S. citizens a better chance of finding a job because immigrants would not be accepted compared to the number of minorities that companies have to hire. Once this subparagraph is added, the president would then have to sign an executive order stating that while contractors can hire immigrants, only U.S.-born minorities would be considered for meeting affirmative action goals. I think this would then solve the problem of hiring non-citizen immigrants. As you read the facts and opinions in this article, I think you will understand that this is a problem that needs to be faced. Affirmative action does not do everything it was originally created to do.
