Essay / Abortion should be illegal - 822
Abortion has been accepted by the United States of America since the monumental Roe v. Wade case in the early 1970s, but remains a highly controversial issue. Many people are for or against abortion. Some people say that the child in the womb deserves the opportunity to live, while others believe that a mother has the right to choose whether her fetus can live or die. Other abortion supporters argue that abortion helps reduce the threat of overpopulation. They also argue that in many extreme cases, it is in the best interests of the mother and child that the fetus be aborted. Abortion helps keep crime rates low and therefore should remain legal, they also say. I think abortion should be banned. I strongly believe that pregnant women who wish to abort their child/fetus should not be allowed to do so. On the one hand, should one person alone be allowed to control the fate of another? Technically, abortion is murder, since the baby is intentionally killed. Some say that in the first days or weeks of pregnancy (maybe even the first two months), the baby is actually not alive; it's just a bunch of cells. However, the fetus breathes and receives nutrients from the mother before she even knows she is pregnant. Before long, the fetus also has human characteristics: a head, hands, legs, arms, feet and a torso. So, abortion should only be legalized when murder becomes legal, because abortion is murder. Abortion supporters still say: what about radical cases? If a single mother living in poverty is pregnant and cannot provide for her baby, should the baby still be born? If a disabled child is to be born, should parents be allowed to mercy kill/abort the child? I... middle of paper... would be furious if they knew their child was aborted (killed) without their consent or knowledge. It is therefore obvious that abortion should be banned and made illegal. Murder is a capital crime, so why should abortion, which is even worse, remain legal? Some murdered people deserve it, while many others lived immoral or corrupt lives. Why should an innocent child who has done nothing wrong be denied the chance to live? If Bill Gates had been aborted, we might not have a PC in the world. Had he been denied the right to live, the world could have been denied the privilege of having a computer in homes around the world besides Microsoft. Maybe someone who could have made the world a better place was aborted. Who knows? The main point is that abortion is murder and no human being has the right to decide who lives or dies..
