In a time when divorce rates are at an all-time high and a marriage has no complete guarantee of success or durability; I often wonder why so many people invest so much in extravagant and magical weddings? Currently, the divorce rate in the United States is alarming: 50% of married couples file for divorce. Despite high divorce rates, many couples dedicate a single day to one event, the equivalent of the average American's gross annual income. I mean, why not go for the option of a simple, standard church wedding; a couple can still have that. After all, someone with common financial sense would know that it's not wise to invest so much in something that you're not entirely sure will be a success. Couples believe that for the public, i.e. relatives and friends, how complicated a marriage means to them. the importance or dedication of the bride and groom towards the marriage and its sustainability. This is why love marriages cost more than arranged marriages. In love marriages, couples try their best to display their commitment to marriage through lavish matrimonial events. This was certainly the case at the Indian Love Wedding, a wedding event I attended some time ago. In the case of arranged marriages, there is no special devotion of the spouses to each other at the time of marriage but just a legal commitment. This therefore explains why arranged marriages cost significantly less than love marriages. In arranged marriages, the devotion or love between the spouses develops after marriage and usually progresses over time. Due to the need to express their intense devotion to each other and show it off, a couple indulges in excessive spending on their wedding events by planning fairytale and extravagant destination weddings like This was once again the case with another Indian love wedding which I attended a few years ago. At the same time, the couple completely ignores the current high divorce rates and does not think about the sustainability of the marriage, but only focuses on the event that triggers the marriage.
