  • Essay / Influence of my grandfather - 711

My grandfather mentioned when I was young that I should always do my best in school and go to college. I always thought he was just doing it because he wanted his grandchildren to succeed in life and live the lives they wanted. It was until I was 10 that I learned that he had been imprisoned by the Nazis during the outbreak of World War II in Poland. My grandfather who was born in New York and raised during the Great Depression was accepted into a very nice school in Poland and since his parents were from Poland he was more than happy to go there. When my grandfather arrived in Poland, just a few years before the war broke out. My grandfather found a job delivering newspapers shortly after Nazi Germany invaded Poland. At first, my grandfather was not affected by the outbreak of war. Because he wasn't Jewish, so he had nothing to fear, or so he thought. The school my grandfather was about to attend was close to that of the Nazis, unable to return to the United States due to money problems, he continued his job as a paper delivery boy until 'a local German boy wants the job as a paper delivery boy and reports my grandfather to the Nazis. that he was an American spy. Shortly after, my grandfather was taken to (insert name of camp).
