Telephones have been around for over a century, with the first telephone having been created in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. At that time, this new form of technology was only used to communicate. In more modern times, telephones have evolved into mobile phones, more commonly known as cell phones. Currently, cell phones allow you to send text messages, images and videos. When it comes to computers, cell phones can access the internet using WiFi or internet connectivity. Cell phones have become more like pocket computers. Cell phones like iPhones and Androids are capable of doing things that people would never have imagined in the past, like being able to video chat with someone thousands of miles away. Now that generations who have experienced all these necessities are still waiting for even more advanced technology. Overall, past, present and future generations have different expectations when it comes to communicating with people, whether they are on the road or somewhere across the world. Many say that it was not Bell who created the device, but an Italian innovator, Antonio Meucci. Bell received a US patent for creating the first telephone. By 1881, at least 49,000 telephones were in use. The design was a very generic and simple build. To use it, you would speak through a barrel connected to a receiver. It had many uses at the time of its creation. For example; military leaders used it as a way to communicate and send orders over long distances. More generally, ordinary people used it as a way to communicate with distant friends or family. By 1900, 600,000 versions of Bell's creation were in use.
