I made encouraging comments to my colleague by telling him “you are very organized when we do projects together. This keeps us on track. I would try to appreciate the contributions that others have made and given positive feedback. Over the next year, I will continue to improve certain aspects of encouraging the heart. According to Kouzes and Posner (1996), the core of leadership is caring and it is important to build relationships with those I work with (Posner and Kouzes, 1996). When we recognize and acknowledge others for their contribution, it gives them a sense of courage, inspiration and also leads them to realize the value within the organization (Posner and Kouzes, 1996). Personally, I agree with this leadership perspective and will continue to strive to encourage those around me as it plays an important role in capacity building. An important part of leadership is being able to inspire and empower others to be the best version of themselves.
