Stating "I would expect chapters from the Quran on how to beat your wife and oppress your daughters..." ( Ridley 446) shows that Yvonne Ridley was in the same boat and had stereotypes just as absurd as other Western compatriots. The end of this quote shows that by learning and reading the Quran, she was convinced and interested in the positive aspects of this religion. Not only was Ridley seduced by the difference of this religion, but she was also driven to go out of her way to explain that the way the majority of Westerners perceive Muslims has nothing to do with who they really are. . Focus on the fact that Muslim women are radical people and are on the same level as men. By adding a comparison between the rights that Western women were fighting for in the 1970s and the rights that Muslim women have enjoyed for thousands of years, Yvonne Ridley attempts to focus on what is really important here. His reasoning behind this comparison was essentially to prove to Westerners that they should care about their own race and stop creating false norms towards Muslims.
