In our fast-paced society, technology is constantly evolving. This ultimately ensured that technology was always within our reach. In everyday life, many people depend on computers for their capabilities; including police officers, small businesses, Wall Street, and even the average person at leisure. Without the invention of the first mechanical computer in 1822 by Charles Baggage, our society would not be where it is today. The computer is considered one of the most powerful technologies societies will ever have.1 The first computer was made up of nearly 4,000 different parts. Measuring about seven feet high and 11 feet long, nowhere near the compact computers we have today.2 Following the first computers, large design rooms had to be set up to accommodate its large size. Early computer functions were designed simply to perform calculations that included adding very large numbers. The invention and technology of the computer has not only improved and advanced our society; but has also developed a variety of new technologies alongside its advancements. These advancements include software capabilities and Internet access. The computer has also had a significant impact on cultural and social changes over the decades since the invention and technology of computers. One of the greatest advances made possible by the invention of the computer was computer software.
