    The Magnet Recognition Program and the Pathway to Excellence Program are two distinct, stand-alone recognition programs. Many healthcare organizations will view the Pathway program as a way to celebrate nursing excellence in the workplace. The Pathway to Excellence program focuses on creating an environment that will attract and retain hired staff. The Magnetic Recognition program focuses on a level of excellence in practice that influences patient care outcomes. Studies show that Magnet organizations produce patient outcomes, demonstrate better patient satisfaction, and boast greater job satisfaction and improved workplace well-being and safety for nurses (Jurkovich, Karupiuk and King, 2010). Special requirements are necessary for both programs, including Chief Nursing Officer (CFO) training. For example, the chief nursing officer must hold at least a bachelor's degree in nursing for the Pathway to Excellence, while for Magnet status the chief financial officer must hold a master's degree at the time of application and all nurse managers must obtain a bachelor's degree.....
