Cann ChinProfessor GriesmannEnglish 1BFebruary 20, 2013Gay MarriageSince the dawn of time, homosexuality has occurred naturally with the rest of the world, but for many people, attraction to Same sex is still considered an anomaly. Lifestyles, such as orientation, gender or race, are constantly criticized and discriminated against, especially in the past. In our current society, discrimination has diminished to the bare minimum, but there will always be room for new discrimination to arise. Much of the world has a critical eye, and unfortunately, those eyes have denied the rights of many people, with one of the main forms of discrimination being same-sex marriage. In the United States, only nine out of fifty states allow same-sex marriage. The low rate of same-sex marriage raises fears that society will never recognize homosexuality. Instead of just nine states, same-sex marriage should be legalized across the country. In fact, the whole world should recognize and legalize same-sex marriage. Legalizing same-sex marriage is vital because not only will humans gain the basic right to marry, but it will also create stable families and relieve the economy. In our current society, being homosexual is considered a sin for many people, and these people also believe that homosexuals should not deserve the basic right to marry simply because it is deemed unnatural. Today there are homosexuals who still hide behind a wall of secrets and will remain behind these walls until people stop considering homosexuality a sin. “Most fundamentalists believe that homosexual behavior is a sin. By and large, those who believe that homosexuality is a sin generally also believe that it is a choice” (Andryszewski 28). The "sin" of being homosexual sparks fear among children ... middle of paper ...... in our society. Legalizing same-sex marriage leads the future to a world where the word discrimination is no longer in the dictionary and a world that will provide a place where children can be born without fear of being looked down upon. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever” (King 365). Throughout history, black Americans have fought for their civil rights and won, women have fought for their civil rights and won, and now it is time to accept homosexuals into our society and reward them for victory.
